At one time, while I was working at Intel, they said they would institute options to make it easier to match typical gfortran option groups, at least -O2.

It doesn't surprise me that Intel Fortran doesn't reject it, it's but the latest incarnation of a long line of compilers extending back to the 60s. In a conversion from ifort to gfortran I got bit by the former representing .true. as -1 and the latter using 1 for the same purpose, instead of the traditional (C-like) not 0 .

Note, the FPU, internally computes intermediary results with 80-bit temporaries whereas SSE does not. Therefore, the FPU code may produce results with smaller roundoff errors.

With that option ('-O3 -fast -parallel') I could reduce execution time from 21 sec. to 1.4 sec. compared to '-O3 -fast' only (for my cpu, PSXE 2024 u3). I think '-qopt-matmul' can also be used.
